~ Coordinate engineering activities related to Technical Cost
Reduction of selected vehicles in support of the Cost Optimization
~ Represent the Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA) Cost
Optimization Committee in technical decisions required for cost
management early in the Product Development Process.
~ Participate in cross-functional teams across Hyundai Motor
Company (HMC) units including R&D, Design, Manufacturing,
Quality, Product Planning, Marketing, Logistics and others.
~ Engineer and design improvements to future vehicles to reduce
cost, while improving quality, reliability and durability.
~ The ideal candidate is someone who understands all aspects of
automotive development from initial concept to production with a
proven history of impact in product development.
~ Analyze early designs, extrapolate conclusions, and drive
innovative solutions to improve profitability considering:
specifications, cost, mass, performance and quality
~ Understand past critical cost saving measures across all
vehicle commodities, and ensure implementation to future
~ Create and present technical reports to communicate project
status and results
~ Track and report status on all ideas on a weekly basis.
~ Conduct, as needed, cross-functional quality and engineering
meetings with the Hyundai Motor Group.
~ Document and manage incoming cost optimization ideas, create
validation plans, and ensure execution.
~ Represent the Cost Optimization Organization in VA/VE related
~ Responsible to meet technical Cost reduction targets.
~ Travel up to 50%-75% of the time domestically and
~ Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering or related
~ Master's degree in Automotive Engineering or related science,
~ At least five (5) years of Design and Release Engineering in
the automotive industry.
~ Knowledge of US vehicle homologation requirements a plus.
~ Knowledge of design, manufacturing and assembly of core
components is required.
~ Working experience in one or more areas of the vehicle is
required: body, closures, mechanisms, exterior trim, interior trim,
seats, chassis, electrical.
~ The ideal candidate is someone who is skilled at, and enjoys
technical problem solving.
~ Interpretation of technical drawings
~ Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
~ Strong written and oral communication skills.
~ Strong analytical/problem solving ability.
~ Strong data management/general and statistical
~ Experience utilizing Computer Aided Design tools (capability
in CATIA V5 ideal, but not required)
~ Ability to use standard automotive assembly tools
~ Valid Driver's License
~ Satisfactory driving record
~ Actively participate in hands-on vehicle tear-down and related
~ Occasional lifting and/or vehicle mechanical
~ Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule. Work
