Job Description:
The Certified Phlebotomist I will perform blood collection
activities in accordance with Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center
Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The
Certified Phlebotomist I will perform pre-analytic, post-analytic
and data management under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory
supervisor or other appropriately California licensed personnel.
The Certified Phlebotomist I will demonstrate the skills necessary
to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Perform venipuncture and heel stick specimen collection activities
according to laboratory protocol. Follow laboratory protocol to
ensure proper identification of patients and specimens.
Consistently apply infection control policies and procedures at all
times. Provide quality laboratory service to clients, patients,
physicians and peers. Perform pre-analysis and post-analysis of
laboratory orders according to department protocols and procedures.
Evaluate quality assurance requirements when applicable. Attend and
actively participate in department specific education, training,
in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
Ensure equipment and safety devices are used as intended and
designed. Perform data management and documentation activities.
Require effective communication, verbally, in writing and through
other means. Ability to be at work and be on time. Ability to
follow company policies, procedures and directives. Ability to
interact in a positive and constructive manner. Ability to
prioritize and multitask. High School graduate or equivalent
preferred Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life
Support Card Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by
the State of California
